Since watching Jurassic Park as a kid, I was determined to someday be behind the magic. I wasn’t able to work on any dinosaur films, but here are some of the major films I’ve worked on:

Research & Development Engineer, Structural Simulation

I developed a suite of tools that helped artists achieve the glorious, over-the-top destruction and explosion effects that no Michael Bay film is without. The film was nominated for an Achievement in Visual Effects Oscar and won Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture at the Visual Effects Society Awards.

How to Train Your Dragon – 2010

FX Engineer

I created a set of fluid effects tools that were used on pretty much every smoke and fire shot in the movie. The film won Outstanding Effects Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture at the Visual Effects Society Awards.

I worked on the physics engine that helped control Davy Jones’ tentacles and achieve the large shot where thousands of crabs carry the marooned Black Pearl to sea. The film was nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture and won Outstanding Performance by an Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture at the Visual Effects Society Awards.

I created a tool that artists used to control the Dementor’s cloth. The film was nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture at the Visual Effects Society Awards.

I created a set of fluid and rigid body dynamics tools that were used for creature, fluid and cookie smashing effects (yes, cookies). The film was nominated for Outstanding Effects Animation in an Animated Feature Motion Picture at the Visual Effects Society Awards.
